"Breaking the Chains" is a song by the American heavy metal band Dokken. It was released as the title track of their debut album in 1983. The song was written by the band's lead vocalist Don Dokken and their guitarist George Lynch.

The song features a catchy guitar riff, powerful vocals, and a memorable chorus that encourages breaking free from oppression and taking control of one's life. The lyrics are about the struggle to break free from the chains of a bad relationship or other negative circumstances, and finding the strength to stand up for oneself.

"Breaking the Chains" became one of Dokken's most popular songs and helped establish the band as one of the leading acts of the 1980s heavy metal scene. It also earned them airplay on MTV and radio stations, helping to propel the album to gold certification in the United States.
